Eddie Hearn hasn’t been shy about his feelings towards Artur Beterbiev. As the Matchroom chairman, he’s taking the helm in promoting Beterbiev’s opponent, Dmitry Bivol, for their upcoming clash for the undisputed light-heavyweight title on June 1. Hearn made his stance clear during the launch press conference in London.
Previously, Hearn had been involved in promoting Callum Smith against Beterbiev in January. Beterbiev’s victory via a brutal seventh-round stoppage surprised Hearn, who hadn’t anticipated such an outcome.
Eddie Hearn on Beterbiev and his personality
In a recent interview with DAZN Boxing, Hearn didn’t hold back in expressing his criticism of Beterbiev and his personality. He described Beterbiev as arrogant, acknowledging his dangerous skills and self-belief, but also expressing his personal distaste.
However, Hearn redirected the focus to the upcoming fight, expressing his determination for Bivol to emerge victorious.
Despite his personal sentiments, Hearn acknowledged Beterbiev’s prowess, highlighting the tough challenge ahead for Bivol in their pursuit of the undisputed world championship.
In other news related to the event, Hearn and Frank Warren of Queensberry Promotions announced a five vs. five boxing tournament set to take place on the Beterbiev vs. Bivol undercard. The co-main event features Deontay Wilder’s comeback against Zhilei Zhang, with Hearn collaborating with Wilder for the matchup.
