In All Elite Wrestling (AEW), Claudio Castagnoli, now known as Cesaro, made his mark after gaining popularity in WWE, particularly through his partnership with Dutch Mantell, known as Zeb Colter.
Recently, the veteran manager shed light on the dissolution of their collaboration and WWE’s rationale behind it.
Teamed up with Jack Swagger, Cesaro formed the memorable duo known as The Real Americans, with Dutch Mantell as their guiding force.
Following a year of success, WWE opted to disband the alliance, and at WrestleMania 30, Cesaro, now 43, clinched victory in the inaugural André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.
In a candid moment on Smack Talk, Dutch Mantell admitted his surprise at WWE’s decision to separate Cesaro from himself and Swagger.
Seeking clarification from the company, Mantell was merely informed of vague “plans” for the Swiss sensation.
Reflecting on Cesaro’s subsequent trajectory, where he briefly aligned with Paul Heyman but failed to secure a prominent spot in the main event scene, Dutch Mantell speculated that WWE might have ended The Real Americans prematurely:
“Oh yeah, I asked them, I said, ‘What is the reasoning behind pulling him [Cesaro] away from me and Jack?’ They went, ‘Well, we’ve got plans for him.’ The plans lasted, like, a week. I said, ‘Damn, he could have done the same play with us.'”
Presently, Cesaro is thriving in AEW, where he contributes as a member of the esteemed Blackpool Combat Club, boasting extensive experience within a roster brimming with talent.
