Drew McIntyre recently addressed the potential showdown with three-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk at this year’s SummerSlam, shedding light on the intense rivalry between the two veterans.
The feud ignited when The Straight Edge Superstar made his WWE return in late November, sparking a heated confrontation with McIntyre.
Despite Punk eliminating McIntyre from the 2024 Men’s Royal Rumble match, their clash took a dramatic turn when Punk suffered a torn tricep injury while facing McIntyre’s Future Shock DDT.
The untimely injury sidelined Punk, depriving him of a WrestleMania spotlight and thwarting his lifelong dream of headlining the grand event.
McIntyre, acknowledging his role in Punk’s injury, has since continued to taunt the resilient Superstar, fueling anticipation for their eventual showdown.
In an interview with Gorilla Position, McIntyre expressed his eagerness to face Punk at SummerSlam on August 3, albeit with a note of concern for his opponent’s well-being. Reflecting on Punk’s injury-prone history, McIntyre voiced apprehension about Punk’s ability to withstand the physicality of their anticipated encounter.
“Yeah, I just hope he’s careful. Just worried he’s going to injure something else during rehab. Man’s made of glass. I want that match. I really want that match. I’m just concerned for him, especially wrestling someone like me. I’m a freaking monster in there…I got my hands on him. You saw what I did to him at ‘Rumble. I tore him to pieces. I chopped him to bits…[CM] Punk was black and blue. I ended up hurting him in there,” McIntyre stated.
As McIntyre prepares to face Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on Night Two of WrestleMania XL, his focus remains razor-sharp despite the looming specter of a potential clash with Punk. With five consecutive television victories since the Royal Rumble, McIntyre’s momentum is undeniable as he sets his sights on championship gold.
Meanwhile, Seth Rollins has redirected his attention towards The Rock and Roman Reigns, setting the stage for a high-stakes tag team match on Night One of WrestleMania 40.
As anticipation builds for Punk’s return to Monday Night RAW ahead of WrestleMania, fans eagerly await the possibility of a confrontation between McIntyre, Punk, and Rollins. With tensions running high and rivalries reaching a boiling point, the WWE Universe braces for the explosive showdowns set to unfold in the weeks and months ahead.
