It appears that Dragon’s Dogma 2 will address the issue of repetitive dialogue among Pawns, a concern that persisted from the first game in the series.
For those unfamiliar with the original Dragon’s Dogma, it’s highly recommended as an outstanding RPG, often compared to the underrated Skyrim.
Despite some surface-level similarities in tone and aesthetics, the games differ significantly. One distinctive feature in Dragon’s Dogma is the Pawn system, allowing players to recruit Arisen-like NPCs for collaborative combat and development.
While the Pawn system enhances the game’s combat dynamics, there has been a longstanding gripe among players—Pawns tend to repeat the same phrases.
Although players can mute the repetitive chatter through settings, this poses a dilemma as occasionally useful information might be missed. Game director Hideaki Itsuno acknowledged this issue in a recent interview with IGN.
Itsuno revealed, “This time around, we surveyed lots of players before creating the Pawns. We had a lot of feedback saying that Pawns in the first game repeated the same dialog too much.”
He added with a slight chuckle, “So we focused first on that. We’ve done whatever we can to keep Pawns from repeating the same lines multiple times.”
The humorous phrasing suggests a scenario where Pawns have a mind of their own, and Capcom has limited control over their behavior.
The image of Pawns defying their programming and repeating themselves even more in the sequel adds a playful element. However, it’s likely that players can expect more varied dialogue options from the Pawns in the sequel, promising a less frustrating experience.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is scheduled for release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on March 22. Described as a “seamless fantasy world,” it aligns with the preferences of fans, particularly those who appreciate games like Jasmine’s beloved Witcher 3. While awaiting its launch, players can explore the best RPGs available today.
