Devin Haney, a seasoned boxer from California, recently faced off against Regis Prograis in a much-anticipated fight in December 2023. Leading up to this bout, Prograis had made some serious allegations against Haney concerning his early boxing record.
Before turning professional, Haney frequently fought in Tijuana, Mexico, due to age restrictions in the US. This background set the stage for Prograis’ accusations.
In a series of tweets from October 2023, Prograis claimed Haney had paid to remove a loss from his record. These matches, often held in less formal venues like hotels and bars, lend a murky backdrop to the validity of these claims.
Devin Haney’s Recent Clash with Regis Prograis
Regis Prograis tweeted, expressing his distrust and labeled the alleged cover-up as weak if true:
“Rougarou emphasized that if it’s true, it’s an extremely weak move on ‘The Dream’s’ part.”
Haney quickly responded, dismissing the allegations and criticizing the source of the information, boxer Rolly Romero:
“Only a dumba** would believe some sh** like that.. this info is coming from Rolly that should tell u enough”

Prograis, unswayed, continued his assault on Haney’s integrity, insisting his sources confirmed the story. He also disconnected himself from Romero and shared harsh words for both Haney and Romero.
“The veteran boxer then referred to ‘The Dream’ as a “fraud” and claimed that more people know about the alleged hidden defeat than he thinks.”
Prograis went so far as to assert that Haney’s record should be 29-1 with 15 knockouts, instead of the flawless 30-0.
However, the controversy didn’t seem to shake Haney’s performance. When they finally met in the ring in December, Haney secured a unanimous decision over Prograis, capturing the WBC super lightweight (junior welterweight) title and advancing his record to an impeccable 31-0 with 15 knockouts.
Upcoming Challenges: Haney vs. Garcia
Following his victory, Haney is now preparing to defend his WBC super lightweight championship against Ryan Garcia, a former WBC interim lightweight champion and one of the brightest stars in the sport.
This highly anticipated match is set to take place on April 20, 2024, and promises to be a pivotal moment in both fighters’ careers. As he prepares, Haney is eager to enhance his knockout record in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
