Cody Rhodes, currently reigning as the Undisputed WWE Champion, has deliberately chosen not to draw comparisons between his title run and Roman Reigns’ legendary tenure. Despite ending Reigns’ notable reign, Rhodes focuses on carving out his own distinct legacy within WWE.
In a recent interview on The Babyfaces Podcast, Rhodes shared his reflections on his championship journey, emphasizing his intention to create a unique identity for his matches and title defenses.
When discussing his reign, Rhodes expressed contentment with his achievements thus far, particularly highlighting the significance of his moment at WrestleMania 40.
He mentioned that if this were the pinnacle of his championship run, he would still regard it as a monumental personal accomplishment. However, Rhodes remains optimistic, believing that his journey as a champion will continue to evolve and improve over time.
Rhodes is eager to differentiate his matches from those of his predecessors, aiming to represent a new era for the title. He admitted that while some matches, like his bout with Logan Paul, haven’t completely captured this vision, others, such as his first match against AJ Styles, have successfully portrayed the image he wants as champion.
Rhodes emphasized the need to avoid direct comparisons to Roman Reigns’ reign, acknowledging the unique and unparalleled challenges Reigns faced, such as guiding WWE through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Looking ahead, Rhodes is set to defend his title in an I Quit match against AJ Styles at WWE Battleground. He remains focused on solidifying his legacy by making each title defense unique and memorable, striving to enhance the prestige of his championship run without falling into the shadow of his predecessor’s accomplishments.
