Cillian Murphy, the star of “Oppenheimer,” has responded to Pierce Brosnan’s endorsement of him as the next James Bond by suggesting he might be “a bit old” for the role. Despite Brosnan’s praise, Murphy expressed his reservations to Deadline, stating, “I think I’m a bit old for that.”
Brosnan, known for his portrayal of 007 in three films, had earlier touted Murphy as an ideal candidate, praising his potential to excel as the iconic spy. However, Murphy’s remarks suggest he may not see himself fitting into the role at this stage of his career.
Meanwhile, Barbara Broccoli, the producer of the Bond franchise, has revealed that progress on the next Bond film is currently stagnant. She confessed to Deadline that there’s
“nothing I can tell you about the next Bond film… There’s nothing. Nothing is happening yet.”
This lack of development may leave fans waiting longer than anticipated for the next installment.
Murphy’s name is just one of many that have been floated as potential successors to Daniel Craig’s Bond. Andrew Scott, who starred in “Spectre,” has suggested his “All of Us Strangers” co-star Paul Mescal for the role, while Ana de Armas from “No Time to Die” also supports Mescal’s candidacy.
Other actors rumored to be in the running include Jack O’Connell, Greta Gerwig’s pick Kingsley Ben-Adir, and a slew of others such as Richard Armitage, Jamie Dornan, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Lucien Laviscount.
However, despite persistent speculation, Idris Elba, a long-standing fan favorite for the role, has expressed doubts about his suitability for the part at this stage of his career, suggesting it’s not a current career goal.
As the hunt for the next James Bond continues, fans eagerly await news of who will step into the iconic role next.
