Sony Pictures’ upcoming horror thriller, Tarot, has set hearts racing as the cast delves into the spine-chilling world of the film’s monstrous creatures and their encounters with eerily accurate tarot readings.
Set to follow a tight-knit group of friends unraveling the mysteries of an ancient tarot deck in a rented home, Tarot promises a hair-raising journey as their fates unfold before their very eyes.
Tarot’s Terrifying Monsters and Unique Filming Experience
In an exclusive interview with The Direct’s Russ Milheim, Tarot stars Jacob Batalon and Humberly Gonzalez opened up about the film’s nightmarish creatures and their personal brush with tarot readings.
Reflecting on his tarot experience, Batalon, who plays Paxton in the film, confessed to being hesitant about getting into into the supernatural realm. He shared, “They tried teaching me about Tarot, but I didn’t want to mess with the supernatural like that.”
On the other hand, Gonzalez, portraying Madeline, revealed her fascination with tarot readings, describing them as “eerily accurate” based on her personal encounters.
As Tarot decks vary in themes, Batalon entertained the idea of a deck with “Pokémon vibes,” while Gonzalez leaned towards one inspired by “the galaxy.”
Inspired by Nicholas Adams’ 1992 book, Horrorscope, Tarot offers a fresh take on the original material. Gonzalez emphasized the film as “a new iteration” of the source material, breathing life into its chilling narrative.
The cast’s filming experience in Serbia added an extra layer of intensity to the production, fostering a strong bond among the crew amidst the unfamiliar environment. Gonzalez reminisced about the camaraderie forged in Belgrade, noting, “It allows you to bond quite quickly because we do not know anybody there. It’s a completely different language and culture.”
Batalon echoed her sentiment, highlighting the camaraderie among the cast and crew, particularly during their late-night escapades in a foreign land.
Sharing anecdotes from the set, Batalon recalled his attempts at communication with a local, which led to a humorous mistranslation courtesy of Google Translate.
Amidst the camaraderie and cultural immersion, Tarot’s practical effects and terrifying creatures brought the film’s nightmarish elements to life. Gonzalez marveled at the practicality of the monsters, noting their ability to induce genuine fear on set.
As for Batalon, the practical creatures provided a sense of authenticity, aiding in his portrayal of fear and anxiety during filming.
Despite the film’s spine-chilling premise, Gonzalez highlighted its visual appeal and suspenseful pacing, likening it to a thrilling roller coaster ride best enjoyed with friends.
With Tarot poised to leave audiences on the edge of their seats, Gonzalez anticipates a surge of interest in tarot readings, inspired by the film’s gripping narrative.
As the cast eagerly awaits Tarot’s theatrical release, they remain hopeful for the possibility of a sequel, eager to revisit the nightmarish world of tarot once more.
Gonzalez speculated that the film might spark interest in tarot readings among viewers, fostering curiosity about fate and destiny.
