Carry1st, an African mobile games publisher, has recently secured an investment from the Sony Innovation Fund, marking the inaugural funding within Sony’s initiative to expand entertainment businesses in Africa.
Established in 2018 by Tinotenda Mundangepfupfu, Lucy Hoffman, and Cordel Robbin-Coker, Carry1st aims to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of gaming in Africa. CEO Robbin-Coker expressed the company’s belief in the significant untapped potential of the African console market.
“The relationship with Sony will empower Carry1st to drive innovation in the gaming landscape of Africa. We view the African console market as a vastly underestimated opportunity,” stated Robbin-Coker. He emphasized the synergy between Carry1st’s regional capabilities and Sony’s extensive expertise in gaming and entertainment, envisioning a formidable partnership. The goal is to bring the finest games from around the world to players across the African continent.
In a noteworthy development last year, Carry1st had already disclosed that it successfully raised $27 million in funding, underscoring its growing influence and attractiveness within the gaming industry. The collaboration with Sony is expected to further enhance Carry1st’s position and contribute to the broader objective of expanding entertainment opportunities throughout Africa.
