On Wednesday, July 24, 2023, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will become the first title in the series to be added to Xbox Game Pass. This follows the news that the next main installment, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, will also be available on Game Pass from its release day. The confirmation comes from an Xbox Wire post authored by Megan Spurr, the senior community lead for Game Pass.
The inclusion of Call of Duty titles on Game Pass marks a significant move by Microsoft, especially after their acquisition of Activision, the publisher of the series. This acquisition has led to the end of exclusive content agreements between Activision and PlayStation, with Modern Warfare 3 being the last game to feature such content.
In addition to these developments, Xbox has announced a price increase for several tiers of its Game Pass subscription. While existing Console tier subscribers will retain their current pricing, other tiers such as Game Pass Ultimate, PC, and Core will see higher costs. A new Standard tier will be introduced for new subscribers, offering the most affordable option but lacking day-one releases like Black Ops 6.
These changes highlight Microsoft’s strategy to leverage its acquisition of Activision to attract more subscribers to Game Pass, while also adjusting its subscription pricing structure.
