Devin Haney faced the first defeat of his professional boxing career over the weekend, losing to Ryan Garcia via majority decision. Amidst the criticism from much of the boxing world, Caleb Plant stepped up to defend him.
Taking to X on Sunday, Plant emphasized that a loss doesn’t define a fighter’s worth, citing the example of Roberto Duran:
“We gotta stop acting like a loss means a fighter su*ks though. Y’all miss the golden era where everyone fought everyone but back then ALL great fighters had losses, had been stopped (Duran QUIT in the middle of a FIGHT, does he su*ks?). S/O to both for making it a great night.”
Devin Haney Responds to Loss Against Ryan Garcia, Caleb Plant Defends Him

Plant’s reference to Roberto Duran vs. Sugar Ray Leonard II, famously known as The No Mas Fight, highlights Duran’s moment of quitting the fight in the eighth round by saying “No Mas” to the referee.
Despite the TKO victory for Leonard, Duran remains an esteemed figure in boxing, honored as an International Boxing Hall of Famer and considered one of the greatest boxers of his era.
Devin Haney’s Response:
After entering the bout with Ryan Garcia as a strong favorite, Haney experienced his first career loss via majority decision. Following the fight, he took to social media to address fans and dispel rumors of a broken jaw, as claimed by his opponent:
“Alhamdulillah Allah is the perfect planner he makes no mistakes.. fought like a true champion. Got up off the canvas & kept fighting. I am 100% ok & would love to do it again while we both make weight.”I have no broken anything btw way like i said im Ok””Same way you dish be able to take it.. I will be back InshaAllah”
Haney’s message reflects resilience and a willingness to face challenges head-on, expressing his readiness to return to the ring.
