The April 3 edition of “AEW Dynamite” started with TNT Champion Adam Copeland stepping into the ring for an in-ring promo, leaving many fans curious about what he had to say.
Despite the anticipation surrounding the upcoming match against the House of Black at Dynasty, Copeland chose to deliver a heartfelt address that tackled much of the negativity that had surrounded the company in the days leading up to the show.
From the departure of 10 performers to the various comments made by CM Punk during his interview with Ariel Helwani, AEW faced a challenging start to April 2024.
On Busted Open Radio, Bully Ray commended Copeland’s promo, remarking that it felt genuine and not scripted by Tony Khan to boost morale.
“This is Adam Copeland speaking from the heart,” Bully asserted. “This is Adam Copeland approaching Tony and saying ‘I want to open the show, I’ve got something I want to say.
I need to put this company on a pedestal, I need to let the fans know about how I feel, I need to let the boys know how I feel, I need to express a great message to the locker room.'”
Both Bully and Mark Henry acknowledged that Copeland’s promo aimed to establish him as a leader within the AEW locker room, reassuring everyone that things would improve moving forward.
Henry highlighted that such speeches are not uncommon in wrestling, citing examples like John Cena in WWE, Cody Rhodes during his time in AEW, and Chris Jericho’s talent for rallying individuals together.
