Bruce Buffer, the veteran octagon announcer, recently celebrated UFC fans for their tremendous support and enthusiasm at the St. Louis card, which shattered the ticket sale record for a UFC Fight Night in the United States.
The event, held at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri, on May 11, showcased thrilling bouts and concluded with Derrick Lewis securing a TKO victory over Rodrigo Nascimento in the main event.
Buffer, who has been a mainstay with the UFC since 1996, has witnessed the organization’s growth firsthand throughout his illustrious career, appearing at every record-breaking moment except for UFC 267 due to contracting COVID-19.
Following UFC St. Louis, Buffer expressed his gratitude on social media to the 15,960 fans in attendance, acknowledging their incredible energy and announcing that the event had set a new record for the highest-grossing Fight Night in the USA, generating $2,460,197 in ticket sales. He tweeted:
“Thank you to all the awesome St. Louis fans for your amazing energy & for making last night’s UFC Fight Night so much fun to announce but also for making it the highest-grossing Fight Night of all time held in the USA with $2,460,197 in ticket sales which is an amazing achievement. Big cheers to all the octagon warriors who put it all on the line for our entertainment.”
Meanwhile, UFC President Dana White revealed plans to reduce the number of events held at the Apex Center in Las Vegas during a post-fight press conference following the successful St. Louis event. White emphasized the importance of taking UFC events back on the road to various fight markets worldwide to rise the sport.
“We built this business taking this thing to every city all over the world. And as we started to get our sh** together, I would call it, and started to move about, and started to go to these different cities like we used to; the whole sport just goes to another level,” White remarked.
He reiterated his long-standing stance on expanding UFC events beyond the Apex, highlighting plans to host more events in different cities throughout the year to rise the sport and create more memorable fight nights akin to the record-breaking St. Louis event.
