Behaviuor Interactive, the renowned game development studio, has confirmed layoffs affecting its Montreal staff, representing less than 3% of its global workforce.
The adjustments, necessitated by changing market conditions, impacted various departments and occurred between January 9 and 11, following earlier reports of layoffs starting in December.
A spokesperson for Behaviour Interactive emphasized their preference for reassigning talent to other projects in such situations.
However, due to certain constraints, this option was not always viable. The departures, which accounted for less than 3% of the total workforce, underscore the studio’s commitment to adapting to evolving industry dynamics.
The layoffs follow a series of strategic moves by Behaviour Interactive, including acquisitions in 2023. SockMonkey Studios was acquired in February, followed by the acquisition of Codeglue in August.
The studio initiated a UK-based studio in Truro, Cornwall, from scratch in July. These expansions and acquisitions were part of the company’s broader strategy, as discussed in an interview with Behaviour’s leadership last April.
Behaviour Interactive remains a dynamic player in the gaming industry, responding to market shifts while navigating its global workforce. The recent layoffs, though affecting a small percentage of the workforce, highlight the studio’s commitment to optimizing project scopes amid a rapidly changing landscape.
