The Apprentice alumni Harpreet Kaur and Akshay Thakrar have shared details about their forthcoming wedding, including an invitation extended to Lord Alan Sugar.
The couple’s engagement, orchestrated by Akshay on a London rooftop last May, marked the beginning of their journey towards marriage.
Having met on the BBC reality show in 2022, the pair is organizing a three-day celebration featuring both English and traditional Indian wedding customs, culminating in a lavish reception.
Among the distinguished guests are Lord Sugar, alongside his advisors Baroness Karren Brady and Tim Campbell, as well as former co-stars Brittany Carter, Akeem Bundu-Kamara, and Nick Showering. Harpreet’s bridesmaid will be Kathryn Burn.
Expressing her excitement, Harpreet, who clinched victory on the show in 2022, stated to The Mirror,
“We’re really excited and are hoping Lord Sugar, Karren, and Tim can make it. The show is what allowed us to meet, and it’s been a big part of our lives.”
Acknowledging the challenges of managing a wedding, especially considering their Indian heritage, Harpreet emphasized their intent to keep the affair intimate.
She explained,
“We’ve tried to keep the whole thing as intimate as possible because otherwise, it can all get really out of hand. When you’re Indian, your close family equals about 150 people.”
Harpreet and Akshay’s romantic journey began post-show when Akshay invited Harpreet for a lunch date in Shepherd’s Bush. The proposal followed suit the following year on a picturesque London rooftop overlooking The Shard.
Reflecting on the proposal, Akshay recalled the nerves and excitement of the moment, expressing relief upon Harpreet’s acceptance. Harpreet fondly reminisced,
“It was magical. I couldn’t have asked for any more. He’s a true gent.”
While the couple aspires to start a family eventually, they are in no hurry, preferring to savor married life before embracing parenthood.
Harpreet shared, “We’d like to do some traveling and just enjoy married life as a couple because once we have children, they’re going to take over.”
