Obsidian Entertainment has unveiled that its upcoming first-person RPG, Avowed, is scheduled for release this autumn. The announcement was made during the Xbox Developer Direct Livestream, offering a glimpse into the game’s combat mechanics, quests, and diverse environments.
One notable feature highlighted is the ability for players to swiftly transition between playstyles using custom loadouts. This allows for seamless shifts between melee and ranged magic builds during the heat of battle, adding a dynamic element to gameplay.
During the livestream, a sidequest located in the settlement known as Shatterskarp was showcased, marking the third region players will explore in the game. In this quest, players encounter a group of deceased soldiers and their comrade named Nauki. Players have the option to assign blame to Nauki for the others’ demise or absolve him of responsibility.
Carrie Patel, the game director, emphasized Obsidian’s commitment to incorporating “moral nuance and grey areas” into the gaming experience. The consequences of players’ choices in this particular sidequest, and others like it, will reverberate throughout the game world.
Providing a more precise release estimate, Autumn 2024 is now confirmed as the launch window for Avowed. The game has generated significant anticipation, particularly due to being Obsidian’s first major budget project under Microsoft. As a result, it has rightfully earned a place on many lists of the most eagerly awaited games of 2024.
