AEW’s Will Ospreay proudly incorporates aspects of his upbringing in Essex into his wrestling persona, serving as a representative of the English county.
Notably, his repertoire of finishing moves draws inspiration from his life beyond the ring — the Hidden Blade, borrowed from the “Assassin’s Creed” video game series, the Stormbreaker ’93, a nod to his birth year, and the “Cheeky Nando’s” Kick.
Ospreay took a moment during “Hey!(EW)” to shed light on the concept of a “Cheeky Nando’s” for those unfamiliar with it.
“‘Cheeky Nando’s’ is when you’re really hungry. You crave something substantial but not fast food because, let’s face it, fast food isn’t the healthiest option. Yet, fine dining feels a bit excessive,” he elaborated.
“Enter the Cheeky Nando’s. Nando’s stands out as one of the finest Portuguese restaurants you can find in the country.
Picture it: a delightful chicken breast, peri-peri chips on the side, perhaps some creamy mash if you’re feeling indulgent… And always, always accompany it with peri-naise [peri-peri mayonnaise].
If you skip the peri-naise with your Cheeky Nando’s, I question your integrity as a person.”
To offer a minor clarification to Ospreay’s explanation, Nando’s is a South African chain renowned for its Portuguese flame-grilled peri-peri chicken and assorted accompaniments.
Its introduction to the UK market began in 1992, and it has since become ingrained in British culinary culture, emerging as the chain’s largest market.
As of July 2023, there were 45 Nando’s restaurants in the US, primarily located in the Washington D.C., Baltimore, Chicago, and Dallas metropolitan areas.
