Following Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion last year, speculation has been rife about the inclusion of blockbuster titles like Call of Duty in the Game Pass lineup. Microsoft remains steadfast in its commitment to bringing first-party Xbox games to Game Pass on launch day, a move that could potentially encompass titles such as Call of Duty.
In a recent interview with Game File, Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, reiterated the company’s strategy of making first-party games available on Game Pass from day one.
“Our intent is the full portfolio of games from ZeniMax, Activision Blizzard, and XGS–Xbox Game Studios–will be on Game Pass, day one,” Spencer affirmed.
While Spencer’s statement didn’t provide a definitive answer regarding Call of Duty’s inclusion in Game Pass, it echoed his previous remarks about the platform’s approach to game releases.
Delving deeper into the interview, Spencer shed light on the extensive groundwork required to integrate Activision Blizzard games into the Game Pass ecosystem.
“We’re doing the back-end work to make them come to PC and console simultaneously,” Spencer elucidated.
Despite the absence of a clear timeline for Call of Duty’s debut on Game Pass, recent developments suggest that it may not be too far off. Just last week, Xbox announced that Diablo 4 would be joining Game Pass five months after the acquisition’s approval. This precedent indicates that the arrival of Call of Duty on Game Pass could be imminent.
