Former WWE Superstar Aiden English recently shared his insights on Cody Rhodes’ potential tenure as the Undisputed WWE Champion. After ending Roman Reigns’ nearly four-year reign at WrestleMania XL, Rhodes took over the title, setting the stage for new rivalries and challenges.
The night following his victory at WrestleMania, Rhodes was approached by The Rock on RAW, who declared his intentions to challenge for the championship upon his return to WWE, before taking a hiatus.
Cody Rhodes’ Championship Journey and Future Prospects
English, speaking on the Rebooked podcast, expressed his belief that Rhodes’ reign as champion could extend until WrestleMania 41, although it’s unlikely to match the duration of Reigns’ tenure.
“I would imagine Cody is not in line for any even remotely ‘transitional reign.’ Even if it doesn’t last another four years. I mean, we’re getting six-eight-nine months out of this at least. I would imagine probably even next year’s ‘Mania. [I can see Cody walking into ‘Mania as champion.] Yeah, I think we’re gonna go to Cody-Rock potentially at 41. I feel like they might hold off on that. That or we get ourselves around to Rock-Roman finally proper and going somewhere else with Cody,” English commented.
Rhodes is set to make his first title defense at the upcoming Backlash event in France. He secured his position after defeating Carmelo Hayes in his first televised match since claiming the championship. Hayes, who recently joined the blue brand, showcased his skill but fell short against the seasoned champion.
The title defense was set up following AJ Styles’ victory over LA Knight in the final of an eliminator tournament on SmackDown. Styles, known as “The Phenomenal One,” will face Rhodes in what is expected to be a highly anticipated match.
Adding to the intrigue, former Intercontinental Champion Ryback speculated that Dustin Rhodes might make a return to WWE if his contract with AEW expires, potentially enriching the storyline surrounding Cody Rhodes’ championship reign. Such a twist could add a personal dimension to the ongoing narrative and enhance the buildup to their match at Backlash.
As Cody Rhodes continues to find his reign as champion, the WWE Universe is keenly watching to see how his matchups unfold, especially with the potential showdowns and story developments hinted at by veterans and analysts within the wrestling community.
