The recent announcement by AEW regarding the airing of footage capturing the altercation between CM Punk and Jack Perry sparked a flurry of discussions within the wrestling community. However, the angle has faced significant criticism online.
Kevin Nash recently shared his perspective on the matter during an episode of his “Kliq This” podcast, offering insights into what he believes the segment achieved.
Reflecting on the considerable emphasis placed on this footage reminiscent of the infamous ‘Zapruder’ film, Nash remarked, “The fact that they put so much emphasis on this ‘Zapruder’ film, I’m thinking like wow.”
Nash dismissed online criticism regarding Punk’s level of aggression, highlighting that Punk never explicitly claimed to have punched Perry. “He didn’t punch him. I’ve never seen a fight in my life where somebody didn’t throw a punch.”
Nash downplayed the altercation, suggesting it hardly qualified as a scuffle and attributing the entire incident to a misunderstanding.
He also addressed the attempt by AEW EVPs The Young Bucks to incorporate the footage into a storyline, humorously comparing it to the notorious Tate-LaBianca Murders, infamously perpetrated by members of Charlie Manson’s cult, including actress Sharon Tate.
Mockingly, Nash remarked, “The Young Bucks – after witnessing this horrific ‘Tate–LaBianca f**king murder’ – I couldn’t tell, but it looked f**king at one point Phil actually – with Perry’s blood – wrote ‘Helter Skelter’ on the wall behind him.”
Nash questioned the rationale behind The Bucks’ decision to incorporate the footage into the storyline, even within the confines of kayfabe.
“And the reason they lost the match at Wembley was because they weren’t focused?” Nash queried. “No, mother**ker, you lost the match because that was the finish!”
