Former WWE head writer Vince Russo expressed his views on this week’s RAW, highlighting a sense of disarray despite the presence of major stars like Cody Rhodes, The Rock, and CM Punk.
The episode, originating from Chicago, served as a significant lead-in to WrestleMania. Viewers witnessed The Rock’s surprise return, culminating in a brutal attack on Cody during the show.
Additionally, Punk made an appearance, announcing his role as a commentator for the Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre match.
Reflecting on the episode on Sportskeeda Wrestling’s Legion of RAW, Russo noted the plethora of elements at play, suggesting it may have been overwhelming for casual fans to follow.
“I watched this show in its entirety. There was nothing on this show that got me any more interested in watching WrestleMania. People have to understand, I look at these shows as a writer and a producer. It seems to me there is nothing easy, straightforward that I can follow. This show is just all over the place, there is no focus.” [1:41 onwards]
Russo supported his viewpoint with examples, highlighting instances where the show’s direction seemed scattered. He pointed out the incongruity of Cody engaging with The Rock despite his impending title match against Roman Reigns.
Additionally, he observed how CM Punk became entangled in the feud between Rollins and McIntyre.
“We’ve got Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns fighting for the Universal title and we’re in the ring with Cody Rhodes and The Rock. Then we have Seth Rollins with a championship match against Drew McIntyre. Then we got Seth Rollins in the ring with CM Punk. Then we got Drew McIntyre cutting a promo on CM Punk. I feel like there is no focus.”
Despite the episode setting the stage for WrestleMania, including intense physicality between The Rock and Cody Rhodes, anticipation remains high for what unfolds next on RAW, particularly with the impending appearances of The Final Boss and Roman Reigns.
