In January, Twitch experienced a notable uptick in viewership, registering a 6% increase compared to the same period last year, totaling 1.9 billion hours watched. This data, sourced from StreamElements and Rainmaker.gg’s monthly State of the Stream report, marks a significant rise from the 1.8 billion hours observed in January of the previous year.
Throughout the 31 days of January, the platform maintained a steady increase in daily hours watched, reaching a peak of 61.4 million, a trend that has been consistently ascending since September 2023.
One notable addition to the roster of highly-watched titles for the month was Palworld, a survival game that garnered 59 million hours of viewership, securing its place among the top-viewed games.
Despite the emergence of Palworld, perennial favorites Grand Theft Auto 5 and League of Legends continued to dominate Twitch’s viewership charts for January.
Additionally, the implementation of Twitch drops incentives offered for viewing content and channels played a significant role in propelling Escape from Tarkov to the third position in terms of most-watched titles.
The top-viewed games on Twitch for January, along with their respective hours watched, are as follows:
1. Grand Theft Auto 5 – 179 million
2. League of Legends – 101 million
3. Escape from Tarkov – 82 million
4. Fortnite – 66 million
5. Palworld – 59 million
6. Valorant – 57 million
7. CS: GO – 51 million
8. Minecraft – 45 million
9. DOTA 2 – 43 million
Reflecting on this surge in viewership, Or Perry, co-founder of StreamElements, remarked, “It is promising to see Twitch achieving a new peak with five consecutive months of growth in daily hours watched. However, it is too soon to know if the broader gaming audience is finally embracing the platform as January always attracts more viewers than December.”
