The world of professional wrestling was abuzz last week when AEW CEO Tony Khan made his on-screen debut, getting attacked by Jack Perry and The Young Bucks on Dynamite.
However, not everyone was impressed with the segment, including former WWE Hardcore and Tag team Champion Al Snow.
Speaking on Vince Russo’s The Brand podcast, Snow sarcastically shared his thoughts on Shahid Khan’s reaction when he came out to check on his son at the end of the episode.
Snow mocked Shahid Khan’s supposed thought process, saying, “What are you thinking, Tony? You’ve been spending this much money on this?” The comment was a clear jab at Tony Khan’s handling of AEW and the perceived lavish spending on the promotion.
Snow wasn’t the only one who had something to say about Tony Khan’s on-screen debut. Former WWE writer Vince Russo also weighed in on the topic, admitting that while it may have looked easy, taking a bump like Tony Khan did wasn’t as simple as it seemed. ”
We all know Tony has watched this since he was 10 years old, it looks a lot easier than it is, even a simple sellout,” Russo said.
Al Snow echoed Russo’s sentiments, adding that people often underestimate the difficulty of selling a move like the one Tony Khan took.
“Yeah and that was what I found funny, it was the fact that so many people think, ‘Ah it’s fake, I can do it, all he had to take was a punch to the stomach,’ and he could’ve dropped to his knees, doubled over and been in pain and instead it was the Bruder was backing to the left, he looked like he was shot from the grassy nole,” Snow said.
Despite the criticism, it remains to be seen how Tony Khan will react to the attack from The Elite on the upcoming episode of Dynamite.
Will he take further action against Jack Perry and The Young Bucks, or will he choose to focus on other storylines? One thing is for certain – all eyes will be on Tony Khan as he navigates this new chapter in his on-screen career.
