The newly crowned AEW World Champion, Swerve Strickland, is garnering attention across mainstream media following his historic victory over Samoa Joe at AEW Dynasty, where he became the company’s first Black world champion in the main event.
Strickland has been actively engaging with various media outlets, from wrestling platforms to traditional news channels like WJXT in Jacksonville, since his title win.
Recently, he was featured on WJXT’s “Going Ringside” segment, discussing all things AEW, including his readiness to defend his championship against any challenger.
When asked about potential challengers, Strickland affirmed his willingness to face “any and all.” The discussion also touched upon Blackpool Combat Club’s Claudio Castagnoli and former World Tag Team Champion Darby Allin.
Describing Allin as a “Maniac,” Strickland highlighted the depth of their relationship, emphasizing their similarities despite being polar opposites.
Their connection was forged through their shared experiences, notably their tag team match at All In in Wembley Stadium, where Strickland and Christian Cage faced Allin and Sting in a coffin match.
Despite their loss, Strickland graciously accepted defeat, taking a coffin drop from Allin and being sealed inside the coffin for Allin and Sting’s victory.
In a gesture of respect, Allin, currently sidelined with a broken foot, honored his rival by sharing Strickland’s catchphrase “Whose house?” on his X account following Strickland’s championship win.
It was revealed that Strickland’s first post-title win promo will kick off Saturday’s “AEW Collision.”
Additionally, on Wednesday’s episode of “AEW Dynamite,” Strickland participated in a Championship Eliminator Match against Kyle Fletcher, securing victory in the show’s second segment.
