The cast of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is expanding with the addition of several new actors, including Marvel’s Krysten Ritter and Ted Lasso’s Cristo Fernández.
Paramount unveiled a new teaser for the third installment and confirmed that, contrary to retirement rumors, Jim Carrey would reprise his role as Dr. Robotnik.
Joining the ensemble are Ritter (known for Jessica Jones and Breaking Bad), Fernández (from Ted Lasso and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts), Jorma Taccone (MacGruber and Pop Star: Never Stop Never Stopping), Sofia Pernas (Jane the Virgin), James Wolk (Watchmen and Harley Quinn), and Ayla Browne (Furiosa).
Fans speculate that Ritter may be portraying Rouge the Bat, and Browne could potentially be Maria, a character often associated with Shadow the Hedgehog. Additionally, it’s noteworthy that Taccone is a member of The Lonely Island, a musical comedy group involved in producing Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers.
The live-action/animated hybrid includes a cameo appearance by ‘Ugly Sonic,’ the early Sonic design that was discarded due to widespread criticism (those teeth still haunt my dreams).
The returning cast includes Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails, Idris Elba as Knuckles, James Marsden as Tom, Tika Sumpter as Maddie, Natasha Rothwell as Rachel, and Shemar Moore as Randall. Sonic 3 will also feature Shadow, although the voice actor for the character has yet to be revealed. Additionally, a Knuckles spin-off series starring Idris Elba is in development and is scheduled to premiere on Paramount Plus.
