SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis has finally spoken out about the eventful WWE Backlash event, shedding light on his decision to convert the highly anticipated tag team match into a Street Fight. The bout, which pitted Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga against Kevin Owens and Randy Orton, was turned on its head when a pre-bell brawl broke out, prompting Aldis to take drastic measures to restore order.
In a post on his official Instagram account, the former NWA Champion explained the reasoning behind his decision, which was met with jubilation from the crowd in Lyon, France. Aldis, who uttered the French phrase “lâchez-vous” – meaning “go wild” in English – seemed to give the go-ahead for the two teams to unleash chaos, and chaos is exactly what ensued.
The match, which was transformed into a wild Street Fight, saw both teams exchanging blows and using every trick in the book to secure the win. At one point, Kevin Owens seemed poised to emerge victorious, having hit an Avalanche Fisherman Buster on Tama Tonga onto steel chairs.
However, just as the referee was about to count to three, Tanga Loa, Tama Tonga’s brother, intervened, allowing Solo Sikoa to capitalize and deliver a Samaon Spike on Owens for the win.
Aldis’ post-match comments also touched on the topic of Bron Breakker, whom he praised despite losing him to RAW in the WWE Draft.
Although Aldis’ efforts to retain Breakker ultimately proved unsuccessful, he expressed admiration for the former NXT Champion, leaving many to wonder what the future holds for Breakker on the red brand.
With Aldis’ successful WWE Draft haul, which included top talents like Andrade and Carmelo Hayes, the SmackDown GM is undoubtedly building a formidable roster. However, the question on everyone’s mind remains: what does RAW General Manager Adam Pearce have in store for Bron Breakker, who was conspicuously absent from the 2024 King of the Ring Tournament bracket? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain – the WWE terrain is about to get a whole lot more interesting.
