In a significant development, a familiar face in WWE has embarked on a new journey behind the scenes.
Earlier this year, Shawn Spears reemerged under the auspices of the Triple H-led regime, making a notable appearance on NXT. His comeback was marked by a bold attack on Ridge Holland, setting the stage for an intense rivalry.
As revealed by Corey Brennan of Fightful, Shawn Spears has expanded his involvement in WWE by venturing into match production on NXT. This transition commenced with the April 16, 2024, installment of the white and gold brand, where Spears collaborated with NXT producer Johnny Moss in curating two compelling women’s matches.
While Spears’ foray into producing marks a significant evolution in his career, there remains speculation about whether the 43-year-old performer is embarking on a full-time transition into this role.
Turning our attention to the specific matchups overseen by Shawn Spears on WWE NXT, the April 16 episode showcased two notable women’s encounters.
Lola Vice emerged victorious over Sol Ruca in a brisk contest spanning just under three minutes, while Tatum Paxley secured a triumph over Thea Hail in an equally engaging three-minute showdown.
In a candid conversation with Fightful following his WWE return, Spears shared insights into his departure from AEW, underscoring the value of professionalism:
“It’s very important to me. I am somebody who, for whatever anybody wants to say about me throughout the course of the 20-plus [year] career that I’ve been doing this, one thing that’s going to be hard for them to say is that I have been unprofessional. I’m a very big believer that as a professional wrestler, that word professional is paramount, is key. It’s almost more important to me than the second word that comes into play. It was amicable, absolutely.” [H/T WrestlingInc]
Since his return to the squared circle, Spears has been making waves on NXT, with his initial victory over Uriah Connors on the March 5, 2024, episode marking the beginning of a new chapter. Subsequently, he bested Ridge Holland before facing challenges against Dijak and Joe Gacy in his subsequent outings.
