A group of experienced individuals from Volition Games has come together to establish Shapeshifter Games, a new co-development game studio. Taking the helm as the studio head is Matt Madigan, who shared the exciting news of the studio’s formation on social media.
Madigan expressed the primary objective of Shapeshifter Games, stating, “Our goal is to foster growth and support developers and publishers by offering a sustainable workforce model. Reconnecting with former colleagues has been a rewarding experience, presenting a valuable opportunity to assist those who have faced challenges in the industry.”
In a strategic move, Shapeshifter Games has entered into a partnership with InXile Entertainment, joining forces as a co-developer for the upcoming RPG Clockwork Revolution. Chris Keenan, the president of InXile, emphasized the priority of providing a landing place for the talented individuals from Volition Games on Clockwork Revolution.
Keenan stated, “Our first priority was ensuring these folks had a place to land on Clockwork Revolution, and we’re thankful we were able to get it done so quickly. Introducing new development partners can be a complex process, but this collaboration felt right from the beginning.”
This announcement follows the closure of Volition Games five months ago as part of Embracer’s ongoing restructuring program. Shapeshifter Games emerges as a testament to the resilience and collaborative spirit within the gaming industry, with a focus on supporting its members and fostering innovation in game development.
