Pixar’s highly anticipated sequel to their 2015 hit, Inside Out, just got a little more revealing. Inside Out 2, set to premiere at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in June, has been disclosed to have a runtime of approximately 100 minutes, according to the festival’s official website.
This runtime marks a slight increase from its predecessor, which clocked in at around 95 minutes. Moreover, it aligns Inside Out 2 with the recent runtimes of Pixar’s latest features, Buzz Lightyear and Elemental, which hovered around 105 and 101 minutes, respectively.
Directed by Pixar veteran Kelsey Mann in his feature directorial debut, Inside Out 2 boasts a script penned by Meg LeFauve, co-writer of the original film, and Dave Holstein, known for his work on TV shows like Weeds and The Brink. Both director Kelsey Mann and producer Mark Nielsen are slated to attend the film’s premiere at the Annecy Festival.
How Will ‘Inside Out 2’ Be Different From ‘Inside Out?’
While the original Inside Out explored protagonist Riley’s emotional struggles with relocation, its sequel is said to going into a new theme that seems to intrigue Pixar—puberty. Mann elaborated on this shift in a recent interview with Empire Magazine, stating, “I wanted to open this movie with them all in sync with one another and feeling like they’re a great team. Until puberty hits.”
The cast of Inside Out 2 will feature a blend of familiar faces and fresh talent. Returning to voice their original characters Joy, Sadness, and Anger are Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, and Lewis Black, respectively. Joining the fray are Tony Hale and Liza Lapira, voicing Fear and Disgust, stepping in for Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling.
New additions include Maya Hawke as Anxiety and Ayo Edebiri as Envy, whose roles were teased in exclusive footage shown at CinemaCon. It appears that Hawke’s character, Anxiety, will play a significant role in the film, possibly adding a poignant touch to Riley’s emotional journey. While specifics of the plot remain under wraps, one thing is certain—the emotional rollercoaster will unfold within 100 minutes.
