The world of All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has been left reeling following the shocking attack on CEO Tony Khan by The Elite and Jack Perry.
The incident, which took place during the April 24 edition of AEW Dynamite, has left fans wondering what’s next for the promotion.
One name that has been thrown into the mix as a potential authority figure is none other than WWE legend Rob Van Dam.
A fan recently took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to suggest that RVD would make an excellent temporary replacement for Khan until he recovers from his injuries.
Interestingly, Van Dam himself seemed to agree with the idea, liking the fan’s tweet. This has sparked speculation that the former WWE and ECW World Champion may be open to taking on a leadership role in AEW.
RVD’s interest in becoming an authority figure in AEW is not entirely surprising, given his current association with the promotion.
He has been making sporadic appearances for AEW, including a recent match on the April 20 edition of Rampage, where he emerged victorious in a High Flying 4/20 Elimination Four-way match.
However, it’s worth noting that Van Dam has also expressed interest in returning to WWE. In a recent interview on the 1 of A Kind podcast, RVD revealed that he would be “totally open” to having another match in WWE, although he acknowledged that it would likely require him to take the initiative and reach out to the company.
Van Dam’s history with WWE is well-documented. He left the promotion in 2007 due to burnout but returned in 2013 only to depart again a year later due to internal frustrations.
Despite this, he has continued to make appearances for WWE from 2019 to 2023.
As AEW navigates this uncertain period without Tony Khan at the helm, Rob Van Dam’s willingness to step into an authority role could be a welcome development.
With his wealth of experience and knowledge of the wrestling industry, RVD could bring a unique perspective to the promotion. Whether or not this becomes a reality remains to be seen, but one thing is certain – RVD’s like on that fan’s tweet has set tongues wagging in professional wrestling.
