Supermassive Games’ hit PS4 cinematic horror game, “Until Dawn,” is being transformed into a film. The project will be led by the creative mind behind the 2017 horror success “Annabelle: Creation.”
Released in 2015, “Until Dawn” offered PS4 gamers a unique interactive experience in the teen slasher genre. It featured a notable cast, including Rami Malek and Hayden Panettiere, and allowed players to shape the narrative, determining the fate of the characters.
Its blend of classic horror tropes and atmospheric storytelling has been a significant influence on Supermassive’s subsequent works, particularly the Dark Pictures Anthology series.
The film adaptation of “Until Dawn” is being touted as an “R-rated love letter to the horror genre,” hinting at a faithful embrace of the original game’s meta-horror elements.
Gary Dauberman, known for his work on notable horror films like “It,” “Annabelle,” and “The Nun,” will adapt the screenplay, initially penned by Blair Butler of “The Invitation” fame. David F. Sandberg, director of “Shazam!” and “Lights Out,” is set to direct the film, marking his return to horror since “Annabelle: Creation.”
This collaboration between Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions is part of a growing trend of adapting PlayStation games into films and TV shows.
While there’s no set release date for the “Until Dawn” movie, it joins a growing list of PlayStation adaptations, including “Uncharted,” “Gran Turismo,” and the critically acclaimed HBO series “The Last of Us.” Other anticipated adaptations include movies of “Ghost of Tsushima,” “Jack and Daxter,” “Days Gone,” and “Gravity Rush,” as well as TV series based on “God of War” and “Horizon Zero Dawn.”
I can’t wait its launch
