WWE veteran Paul Heyman recently shared an emotional moment he experienced when Roman Reigns unexpectedly bestowed upon him a legendary title for the first time, bringing him to tears.
Heyman, 58, joined forces with The Tribal Chief after his dramatic return to SummerSlam 2020, forming The Bloodline faction. Before that, Heyman was known as an “Advocate,” notably during Brock Lesnar’s prime tenure.
In an interview with Graham Matthews of Bleacher Report, Heyman delved into the origins of the titles “Special Counsel” and “The Wiseman” given by Reigns.
Reigns, 38, expressed to Heyman that as the leader of The Bloodline’s council, he envisioned Heyman taking on the moniker of “Special Counsel.”
However, Heyman hesitated to accept the “Wiseman” title, as it was historically associated with wrestling icons such as Captain Lou, Fred Blassie, and Ernie ‘The Grand Wizard’ Roth, collectively known as The Three Wise Men.
The moment Reigns referred to Heyman as “The Wiseman” for the first time deeply moved Heyman, nearly bringing him to tears, as he felt it was one of the highest honors ever bestowed upon him.
Heyman expressed his reluctance, stating,
“To call myself The Wise Man when growing up under the Three Wise Men of the East would be sacrilege. I couldn’t give myself that name.”
He added,
“And one day out of the blue, Roman Reigns just said, ‘You are my Wise Man,’ and it moved me to tears because it is perhaps the greatest honor ever bestowed upon me in or out of this industry with the exception of my children calling me dad.”
In related news, Roman Reigns is slated to defend his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania XL in Philadelphia.
Additionally, Reigns will team up with The Rock to face Seth Rollins and The American Nightmare on Night 1 of ‘Mania.
Afa Anoa’i Jr., a relative of Reigns, expressed openness to assisting The Bloodline at WrestleMania if needed, citing the event’s location in Pennsylvania as a factor.
The WWE Universe eagerly anticipates whether Reigns will retain his title or if Rhodes will conclude his narrative at The Grandest Stage of Them All.
