Paul Heyman, an icon in pro wrestling, is gearing up for a milestone moment as he prepares to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2024. With nearly four decades of experience, Heyman has witnessed the highs and lows of the industry.
Recently, he shared one of the most challenging moments he encountered during his WWE career.
In a candid conversation with TV Insider, Heyman reminisced about the poignant moment in 2018 when Roman Reigns publicly disclosed his battle with leukemia to the WWE Universe.
It was a heart-wrenching scene as Reigns relinquished the Universal Championship before commencing treatment. Although Reigns went into remission just four months later, the emotional impact of that moment lingers, resonating deeply with fans.
Heyman, who was present that night, recounted being one of the first to console Reigns backstage. Despite his typically composed demeanor, Heyman felt compelled to offer support, recognizing the gravity of the situation.
Reflecting on the experience, Heyman admitted finding it challenging to revisit that moment, acknowledging its profound impact on both Reigns and himself.
“I didn’t want to do any public display of emotion, but as I saw him trying to hold in the spiritual turmoil he was going through in the ring, I just knew he needed someone in the gorilla position backstage he didn’t have to lift up. It was, “Hey, you can lean on me.” I rushed up to the gorilla position to be there for him when he came back through the curtain. To this day, it’s difficult to watch. I don’t even remember it happening because it was all such a blur when it was transpiring,”
shared Heyman.
As Reigns returned to the spotlight, he reached unprecedented heights in his career, solidifying his status as WWE’s Tribal Chief. Alongside Heyman, Reigns continues to dominate the industry, poised for further success.

Amidst preparations for his Hall of Fame induction, Heyman also reminisced about his initial encounter with Reigns, dating back over three decades.
Recalling the moment Reigns, then just three years old, visited the locker room with his father Sika, Heyman recognized the “IT factor” in the young Reigns.
Today, Reigns stands as one of the industry’s biggest stars, poised for continued success. As WrestleMania 40 approaches, Heyman remains confident in Reigns’ ability to leave an indelible mark on the sport for years to come.
