Paradox Interactive has introduced The Machine Age, the forthcoming major expansion for its space-exploration 4X strategy title Stellaris, set to delve into “cybernetic, synthetic, and machine themes” upon its release for PC in the second quarter of 2024.
According to Paradox, “Scientists have discovered advanced means to commune with the machine, enabling life to overcome the biological limitations of minds and flesh.” This expansion heralds an era of technical advancement while posing fresh ethical and societal challenges. As ambitions surge, new threats emerge, prompting a reevaluation of the essence of life itself.
Transitioning from this context, Paradox proceeds to outline some of The Machine Age’s innovative features. These include a new Endgame Crisis centered on the resurgence of an ancient synthetic menace, accompanied by a Crisis Path emphasizing technological ascendancy at any cost.
In addition to these, The Machine Age introduces non-Gestalt, individualist machine empires with distinct personalities, offering new narratives and origins. Players can also explore three new Machine Ascension Paths to further personalize their gameplay experience.
Expanding the narrative horizons, The Machine Age presents three fresh origins: Cybernetic Creed, for those inclined towards an empire venerating the fusion of body and cybernetics; Synthetic Fertility, portraying an empire grappling with biological infertility due to a genetic anomaly; and Arc Welders, depicting a robotic society seeking resources beyond its confined space.
Moreover, The Machine Age incorporates reactive portraits, six new Civics (Guided Sapience, Natural Design, Obsessional Directive, Protocol Droids, Tactical Cogitators, and Augmentation Bazaars, requiring the Megacorp expansion), new population traits, and two mid-game structures: the molten Arc Furnace and the potent Dyson Swarm. Additionally, it features seven new synth-infused music tracks.
Upon its PC release in the second quarter of this year, Stellaris’ The Machine Age expansion will be complemented by the free Andromeda update.
