Palworld has achieved a significant milestone, becoming the sixth game in history to surpass one million concurrent players on Steam. Marketed as “Pokémon with guns,” this monster-collecting survival game has been setting records throughout the weekend, crossing the four million copies sold mark since its early access release on Steam and Xbox Series X/S last Friday.
Over the weekend, Palworld steadily climbed the charts, securing its position as Steam’s most popular game, boasting a peak of 1.2 million concurrent players in the last 24 hours alone.
This accomplishment places it ahead of renowned titles like PUBG, Counter-Strike 2, and Dota 2. Notably, Palworld has also surpassed concurrent player records held by Cyberpunk 2077, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Elden Ring.
Despite facing a server outage impacting co-op gameplay, Palworld is merely 4,000 players away from matching Dota 2’s peak concurrent player count of 1,295,114. The surge in popularity has strained co-op servers, leading to intermittent service disruptions.
Pocketpair, the developer, disclosed that when Palworld reached 700,000 concurrent players, they had to conduct an emergency meeting with Epic Games to implement an update to the Epic Online Services. Presently, servers are experiencing outages due to an unusually high global load.
In response to growing issues, Pocketpair advised players against using the in-game item “Memory Reset Drug,” citing a potential bug that could lead to irreversible consequences. Users employing this item may experience a permanent reduction in their capture power.
While the development team is actively investigating the matter, they recommend refraining from using the item until the investigation and correction are completed.
As Palworld continues to achieve remarkable sales figures and consistently breaks its own concurrent player records, some Pokémon enthusiasts, while acknowledging the game’s success, have expressed their observations on social media on the striking similarities between Palworld and Pokémon.
