A fresh glimpse into the highly anticipated “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” unfolded with the debut of a new trailer during this year’s Super Bowl, offering viewers an immersive peek into the forthcoming installment of the beloved franchise.
Set in the aftermath of 2017’s “War for the Planet of the Apes,” the narrative unfolds over three centuries after the demise of Caesar (Andy Serkis). Instead, the story unfolds with a young chimpanzee named Noa (Owen Teague) navigating a vastly transformed world.
The once-unified ape civilization, established by Caesar, has fragmented into distinct factions, while humanity has regressed into a primitive existence, lurking in the shadows.
The latest footage delves deeper into the divided landscape where the apes reside. Within this milieu, whispers of dissent surface, notably from our central figure, Noa, who grapples with the ethical implications of hunting humans, deeming it morally reprehensible.
This stance doesn’t sit well with the ruler, Proximus Caesar (Kevin Durand), who remains resolute in his ambitions, emphasizing in the trailer, “now it is our time.”
His pursuits lean towards harnessing ancient technologies and evolutionary knowledge to advance his agenda, which unequivocally involves domination. The stage appears set for an inevitable clash between him and Noa, as their diverging paths foreshadow escalating conflict.
Alongside Teague, the ensemble cast features William H. Macy, Freya Allan from “The Witcher,” Peter Macon from “The Orville,” and Dichen Lachman from “Severance.” Steering the helm is Wes Ball, known for his directorial prowess in the “Maze Runner” trilogy.
Reflecting on her involvement, Allan, portraying human character Mae, hinted at the intricacies of her role, revealing that Mae is pursued by Proximus due to the apes’ belief in her superior intellect.
Expressing her enthusiasm, Allan shared, “I watched a lot of the series beforehand and yeah, it’s my proudest moment in my career so far. I’m really excited for it to come out, and proud of everyone involved – all the other actors and the director, Wes Ball, are fantastic. Everyone behind the scenes is just brilliant. I can’t really say anything, but I’m telling you now, go and see it.”
