Mara Wilson, Lisa Jakub, and Matthew Lawrence, who played the children in the beloved 1993 film Mrs. Doubtfire, recently reunited after 31 years. The film, which they starred alongside Robin Williams and Sally Field, was a major hit, becoming the second top-grossing movie of 1993 with earnings of $441 million globally.
A Nostalgic Get-Together
Mara Wilson shared her excitement on social media about meeting up with her former co-stars, stating, “It’s always a joy to see Lisa Jakub and Matthew Lawrence.” Lisa Jakub echoed the sentiment, expressing how the trio still feels like siblings decades after their work on the film.
No Sequel Without Robin Williams
Chris Columbus, the director of “Mrs. Doubtfire,” discussed the possibility of a sequel in an interview with Business Insider. He mentioned that sequel discussions only began in 2014, shortly before Robin Williams’ death. Without Williams, Columbus felt a sequel wouldn’t be right, especially since Williams himself was initially reluctant about sequels. Columbus recalled their last conversation about the script, where Williams humorously asked if he had to wear the heavy costume as much.
A Treasure Trove of ‘Doubtfire’ Footage
Columbus also revealed the existence of extensive unused footage from the film, stored in about 972 boxes. This includes movie scenes, outtakes, and behind-the-scenes clips. He hopes to create a documentary from this footage to showcase Williams’ creative process and highlight the magic and uniqueness of his performances.
