Under Triple H’s new leadership, WWE has revamped several belt designs, drawing positive reactions from both fans and industry veterans. Recently, veteran Matt Hardy, a multi-time champion, shared his thoughts on the latest additions.
During an episode of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, the 11-time WWE Tag Team Champion expressed his approval of the new World Tag Team Championship introduced for Awesome Truth by Triple H earlier this month.
Hardy appreciated the updated design compared to what some fans had dubbed the “penny belts.”
“I like the new design, better than the penny belts, as people have called them or whatever. So, it is what it is. I would consider that as an upgrade, you know, when it comes to talking about versions,” Hardy remarked.
Reflecting on the previous red and blue title designs, Hardy acknowledged the branding efforts but emphasized the importance of a prestigious appearance for championship titles.
“I guess I get why they were doing the red and blue titles. They were really trying to brand and promote, specifically the RAW and SmackDown brands, and they have done a good job at that over the years. But, I think it’s one of those things where it’s much better if you have like a more classy (…) A title that seems very valid, that seems like it has equity that looks like a cool trophy that everybody would want to win. I feel like that means more than having something that you’re using to try and push as a branding point for your promotion,” Hardy explained.
The newly introduced titles have already seen action on WWE RAW, with The Awesome Truth successfully defending their championship against DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa) in a recent match, highlighting the significance of the tag team division under Triple H’s leadership.
