Martin Kemp has had to cancel upcoming performances at the last minute due to illness. The former Spandau Ballet star announced on Instagram that he would not be able to perform on the next two nights of his ‘Back to the 80s tour’ in the UK.
He was scheduled to play in Southsea tonight and Coventry tomorrow but shared that these shows would be rescheduled for later dates.
Apologizing to his fans and followers, the 62-year-old said,
“I’m really sorry but I’m going to have to pull out of my show tonight and tomorrow night due to sickness. This was a last resort and not a decision I took lightly. Hope to see you all again in the near future.”
He also provided details for the rescheduled dates:
“My show that would have been tonight at @thegaietysouthsea is being rescheduled to the 30th August and all tickets will be transferred to that date. Please refer to the email that will be sent to the ticket holders shortly for further instructions.”
Regarding tomorrow night’s show at @rialtoplaza, he said,
“My show that would have been tomorrow night at @rialtoplaza is being rescheduled to the 30th November and all tickets will be transferred to that date. Please refer to the email that will be sent to the ticket holders shortly for further instructions. See you soon, Mx.”
Although Kemp did not specify his illness, he expressed regret on Twitter, saying,
“Ah… so sorry about this guys!! First one in a year!! Back on it next weekend!!”
Fans showed their support, with one expressing disappointment at missing the opportunity to see him and others sending well wishes for a speedy recovery.
Martin Kemp is known for his work on TV, including his role as Steve Owen in EastEnders and as part of Celebrity Gogglebox. However, he is most remembered for his time in Spandau Ballet, which formed in 1979 and enjoyed chart-topping success.
