Lego and Hasbro have joined forces to introduce the official Lego Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale set, slated for release on April 1 for Lego Insiders and April 4 for the general public. This highly anticipated kit embodies all the quintessential elements of a D&D-themed experience, boasting explorable dungeons, a plethora of monsters, and customizable characters. Notably, it includes an adventure book, enabling players to embark on a genuine D&D campaign using the set.
The set, comprising 3,745 pieces, encompasses multiple modular scenes, such as an inn for heroes to convene, a multi-room dungeon teeming with traps and treasures, outdoor ruins, and a towering stone edifice. Among the myriad features, the set enables builders to construct an array of adversaries for their intrepid adventurers to confront, with a towering red dragon serving as the centerpiece and highlight of the ensemble.
In addition to iconic monsters like The Beholder, Gelatinous Cube, Owlbear, and Displacer Beast, the set includes smaller creatures such as skeleton warriors and Myconid mushroom folk. Notably, Lego Insiders purchasing the set between April 1-7 will receive a complimentary Mimic chest monster—a noteworthy addition to the set’s impressive bestiary.
Recognizing that character creation is a pivotal aspect of D&D, the Lego set provides a variety of mini-figure components for players to mix and match, facilitating the assembly of their custom adventuring party. A diverse assortment of races, including Orcs, Elves, Gnomes, Dwarves, Humans, and Dragonborn, are included, along with gear and attire inspired by D&D classes such as Fighters, Clerics, Bards, Rogues, and Wizards.
To complement the Lego set, Hasbro is launching the Red Dragon’s Tale adventure module, furnishing players with a prewritten campaign that traverses the set’s dungeons, complete with monster stats and character details. Available as a downloadable PDF or through the D&D Beyond app, Lego Insiders can additionally acquire a limited-edition paperback copy for 2,700 Insider Points.
Given the widespread use of Lego in D&D campaigns, the pairing of the Red Dragon’s Tale set with an official adventure module resonates with enthusiasts. Moreover, the set can be seamlessly integrated with other D&D adventure books or combined with additional fantasy-themed Lego sets, such as the Medieval Town Square or Lion Knight’s Castle, for expanded Lego-based D&D escapades. Lego has also teased forthcoming D&D-themed sets, including more D&D minifigures slated for release in September.
The Lego Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale set will retail for $360 upon its official launch on April 4, while Lego Insiders can secure early access starting April 1.
