Kenny Omega, one of the most versatile and respected wrestlers in All Elite Wrestling (AEW), has made a shocking revelation about his in-ring career.
During a recent Twitch stream, Omega confessed that he can no longer participate in extreme Death Matches, a style he was once synonymous with. This announcement comes as a surprise to fans, especially considering his history of delivering brutal and thrilling matches.
Omega’s decision is largely attributed to his recent health issues. The 40-year-old wrestler has been on hiatus since December due to diverticulitis, a serious and potentially life-threatening condition.
As he prepares to make his return to the ring, Omega has come to realize that he needs to tone down his in-ring style to prioritize his health and well-being.
When asked about Swerve Strickland’s 30-minute Texas Death Match win over Adam Page at Full Gear 2023, Omega expressed his admiration for his colleagues who can still push the limits of extreme wrestling.
“I can never reach these heights, I can never be this extreme, I’m never going to drink anyone’s blood,”
Omega said, acknowledging that he can no longer participate in such intense matches.
This marks a significant shift in Omega’s career, as he was once known for his ability to deliver death-defying performances. His infamous Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match against Jon Moxley at Revolution 2021 is still etched in the memories of fans.
However, with his health taking precedence, Omega is ready to pass the torch to the next generation of extreme wrestlers.
Interestingly, Omega’s return to AEW is set to take place tonight on Dynamite from Winnipeg, although he is not expected to wrestle.
Meanwhile, fans can still show their support for The Cleaner by purchasing limited edition merchandise released in collaboration with TEKKEN 8 video game.
The exclusive shirt will be available for only two weeks, with sales ending on May 15.
As Omega embarks on this new chapter in his career, fans are eager to see what’s next for the former AEW Champion. Will he adopt a new in-ring style or focus on mentoring the younger talent? One thing is certain – Kenny Omega’s legacy in AEW will continue to inspire and influence generations of wrestlers to come.
