Former WWE star Jinder Mahal recently discussed his WWE World Heavyweight Championship match against Seth Rollins on “WWE Raw” earlier this year, expressing gratitude towards Tony Khan for adding intrigue to the matchup.
During a recent episode of “Insight,” Chris Van Vliet questioned Mahal about AEW President Tony Khan’s critical tweet regarding his title bout with Seth Rollins, suggesting that “The Modern Day Maharaja” was undeserving of the championship opportunity.
Mahal responded by thanking Khan for injecting additional interest into the match.
“Drew had texted me, and I received a flurry of messages. I thought, ‘What’s going on?’ Then, I opened Twitter and saw it. Thank you, Tony.
You made that match with Seth more enjoyable, and people tuned in. Some even thought I might win, just to defy Tony … yeah, I was surprised. Everyone rallied behind me. That’s never happened before.”
Mahal also discussed how the phrase “Don’t Hinder Jinder” gained popularity leading up to his championship clash with Rollins, recounting how fans often use the term when they encounter him in public.
“A fan had a sign in Chicago once that read, ‘Don’t Hinder Jinder,’ and it gained traction. I never even said ‘Don’t Hinder Jinder’ on TV or anything … Many people say it to me.
During WrestleMania week, instead of saying ‘Hey Jinder,’ they’ll say ‘Don’t Hinder Jinder.'”
Mahal wasn’t the sole wrestler released from WWE last week, as the company let go of four other superstars on the same night as the departure of the “Modern Day Maharaja.”
