As Jey Uso prepares to take on Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship at Backlash, the WWE star has opened up about a deeply personal tattoo that honors a beloved member of The Bloodline.
In a recent episode of WWE Tattooed, Uso revealed the emotional story behind his ink, which pays tribute to his late uncle, Umaga.
Umaga, a former WWE champion, tragically passed away in 2009 at just 36 years old.
However, his legacy lives on through Jey Uso, who credits his uncle with helping him get started in the wrestling industry.
“If it wasn’t for Umaga, I damn sure would not be sitting here in this seat,” Uso said, his voice filled with gratitude.
“He’s the one who took me into like, you know, hit me on the head and was like ‘You are going to go out here and work out, you are going to train, we are going to go get this contract’.”
Uso’s heartfelt words offer a look into the close bond he shared with his uncle, who was not only a mentor but also a family man.
“My uncle Umaga, family man too. Loved his kids, man, no matter what. I can never talk enough about him, Uce,” he said. The tattoo serves as a permanent reminder of Umaga’s impact on Uso’s life and career.
As Jey Uso gears up for his major match at Backlash, he carries the spirit of his uncle with him. The 38-year-old veteran has already overcome significant hurdles to reach this point, including a thrilling Fatal Four-Way victory last month thanks to some help from CM Punk.
Now, he has the opportunity to capture his first major singles title in WWE by defeating Damian Priest.
Meanwhile, WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long has weighed in on Jey Uso’s recent match against Jimmy Uso at WrestleMania XL.
Speaking on The Wrestling Time Machine podcast, Long defended the match, saying he didn’t see anything wrong with it and wondering what people were expecting.
“I just didn’t see anything wrong. I don’t know what people are really talking about. I mean, what do you want the guys to do?” he asked.
