Chapter 257 of Jujutsu Kaisen has been quite the revelation, particularly in terms of shedding light on Yuji’s background.
Up until this point, there was scant information about his lineage, let alone the revelation that he shares the same Cursed Womb status as Choso. However, the insights provided by Ryomen Sukuna have truly turned the tables. “The endless theories surrounding Sukuna and Yuji as twins for various reasons have been debunked.”
Furthermore, the introduction of an unexpected character into the equation has added an intriguing layer to Yuji’s story. With the emergence of more information about Yuji’s parents, we’re finally starting to piece together what his family tree might entail.
Wasuke Itadori (Grandfather)
Wasuke Itadori, the grandfather of Yuji, plays a significant role early in the series. He shares a deep bond with Yuji, showcased during their poignant moments in the hospital.
As Wasuke’s life draws to a close, he attempts to disclose crucial details about Yuji’s lineage. However, Yuji, perhaps unready to face such truths, dismisses his grandfather’s attempts, urging him to “stop acting cool.”
In his final moments, Wasuke imparts a life lesson to Yuji, stressing the importance of strength and the virtue of helping others. He expresses a desire for Yuji to avoid a solitary death, highlighting the significance of friendships. His passing is marked by Yuji solemnly collecting his ashes, a scene that underscores their close-knit relationship.
Jin Itadori (Father)
Jin Itadori, Yuji’s father, appears briefly during the Itadori’s Extermination Arc. In these glimpses, he is seen holding an infant Yuji, engaging in a serious discussion with Wasuke about Kaori, his wife. Wasuke’s warnings about her true nature later gain clarity with the unfolding events in chapter 257.
It is revealed that Jin is, in fact, the reincarnation of Sukuna’s twin brother’s soul, which Sukuna had consumed in the womb to prevent starvation. This reincarnation was orchestrated by Kenjaku, adding layers of complexity to Yuji’s family history.
Kaori Itadori/Kenjaku (Mother)
Kaori Itadori, initially known as Jin’s wife and Wasuke’s daughter-in-law, possessed a potent Cursed Technique, Gravity Manipulation, which rivals the abilities of notable characters like Yuki Tsukumo.
The narrative takes a dark turn when it is disclosed that Kenjaku hijacked her body and used it to father Yuji. This manipulation by Kenjaku remains shrouded in mystery, suggesting a sinister agreement with Jin’s reincarnated soul aimed at birthing Yuji for purposes yet to be fully revealed.
Yuji Itadori (Son)
Yuji Itadori emerges from the complex and dark heritage of his parents. Before the revelations of chapter 257, little was known about his origins.
These disclosures have not only illuminated his lineage but also highlighted the burdens and expectations placed upon him. As the son of a woman possessed by Kenjaku and a father who is the reincarnation of a powerful curse, Yuji’s own potential and fate are deeply intertwined with the machinations of those around him.
Ryomen Sukuna (Uncle)
In a dramatic twist, Ryomen Sukuna is revealed to be the uncle of Yuji. Sukuna, a name that resonates with fear and power within the Jujutsu Kaisen universe, had consumed his twin in utero, an act that significantly amplified his cursed energy.
The survival of his twin’s soul reincarnated as Jin Itadori, links Sukuna directly to Yuji, redefining their conflict as a familial feud loaded with historical baggage.
Choso, Kechizu, Eso (Half-brothers)
Choso, Kechizu, and Eso represent additional layers to Yuji’s complicated familial network. These characters, known as the Death Painting Wombs, are born of a cursed union facilitated by Kenjaku during his impersonation of Noritoshi Kamo.
These half-brothers share a cursed lineage with Yuji, adding emotional depth and complexity to their interactions, particularly highlighted during Choso’s realization of their kinship in the Shibuya Incident.
