Helldivers 2 has surpassed 8 million copies sold, as reported by Bloomberg and analyst Doug Creutz, who believes the game has exceeded expectations for both Sony, the publisher, and Arrowhead, the developer.
While Sony has not officially confirmed the sales figures, Creutz estimates that Helldivers 2 has likely surpassed the 8 million mark, with sales continuing to grow steadily.
The game has been a massive success for Arrowhead and PlayStation. Upon its initial release, it quickly became PlayStation’s biggest Steam launch ever and currently boasts an all-time concurrent peak of over 458,000 players.
Emma Kent praised the game in Eurogamer’s review, awarding it four stars and describing it as a riot to play with friends, thanks to its high-chaos, high-comedy firefights.
In response to fans comparing the Helldivers 2 franchise to Halo, Helldivers 2’s creative director emphasized the importance of compassion and unity, stating that we should encourage gamers to enjoy both franchises without fostering unnecessary rivalry.
