WWE superstar Gunther, also known as The Ring General, has recently shared his honest thoughts about his experience joining the main roster during Vince McMahon’s tenure. In a candid interview with Mail Sport, the 36-year-old wrestling sensation revealed that he wasn’t thrilled about making the jump from NXT UK to the main roster under McMahon’s leadership.
Gunther, who had a dominant run in NXT UK, held the NXT UK Championship for a record-breaking 870 days before dropping it to Ilja Dragunov. However, he didn’t feel eager to move to the main roster, citing that he wasn’t a fan of the direction things were headed on RAW or SmackDown during that time.
The Imperium leader credits Triple H’s creative control as the reason for his eventual move to the main roster. Under The Game’s leadership, Gunther debuted on SmackDown in April 2022 and went on to become the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion in WWE history, a title he held until Sami Zayn dethroned him at WrestleMania 40.
Gunther expressed his gratitude towards Triple H, stating that the WWE legend always had confidence in him, and the two share a good relationship. He believes that his patience paid off, as things have worked in his favor at the right time in WWE. The Ring General is now focused on showcasing his talent to fans and has set his sights on winning the King of the Ring tournament in Saudi Arabia on May 25.
To achieve this goal, Gunther must first overcome Main Event Jey Uso in the KOTR semifinal on next week’s Monday Night RAW. With his impressive wrestling skills and determination, The Ring General is confident that he can emerge victorious and take his career to new heights.
Gunther’s story serves as a testament to the importance of perseverance and finding the right opportunity. Despite his initial reservations about joining the main roster, he stayed focused and waited for the right moment to make his move. Now, he’s thriving under Triple H’s creative control and is poised to make a significant impact in the WWE universe.
