Gameloft, a prominent games publisher, recently underwent a round of layoffs at its Lviv, Ukraine office, according to reports from PocketGamer.biz via GameDev. The decision to reduce workforce size was attributed to prevailing market conditions.
Tetyana Zadorozhna, representing Gameloft, stated (translated via Google Translate), “Gameloft has been a steadfast supporter of Ukraine from the outset. Each of our studios here has consistently showcased resilience and professionalism, particularly during the challenging circumstances of the past two years amidst the military conflict. However, considering the current market conditions, the company finds it necessary to streamline resources and optimize certain projects at the organizational level.”
Zadorozhna disclosed that 38 individuals were affected by the layoffs at the Lviv location. Additionally, former military personnel, previously deployed, are anticipated to reclaim their prior roles at the Lviv office.
However, the impact of Gameloft’s restructuring extended beyond Ukraine, as staff reductions also occurred at its Toronto, Canada location. The exact number of employees affected in Toronto remains undisclosed, with affected individuals sharing news of their layoffs via LinkedIn.
One such instance involved a former employee of Gameloft who was let go after a tenure of less than six months.
