Square Enix is considering expanding Queen’s Blood, the in-game card game featured in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, as it has garnered immense popularity and acclaim.
In an interview with Red Bull, director Naoki Hamaguchi stated, “There are 145 cards in total. We haven’t decided anything in terms of future development for Queen’s Blood. But so far, the media who played it have provided very positive feedback on it, so we want to consider further expansions as a possibility.”
Hamaguchi emphasized that while there are no concrete plans for expanding Queen’s Blood at present, the potential addition of new cards remains open. He also revealed that Queen’s Blood drew inspiration from various card games such as Marvel Snap and unconventional sources like Splatoon.
Throughout the development process, Square Enix experimented with paper prototypes and simple apps to refine gameplay mechanics. Additionally, the developers utilized a 3D printer to craft a physical Queen’s Blood board for testing purposes.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is currently available on PS5. In GameSpot’s review of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, it was noted, “Thankfully, what Final Fantasy Rebirth succeeds at eclipses what it fumbles. It’s a superbly designed gameplay experience that instills a sense of freedom while also making exploration rewarding in a meaningful way.”
