A new mod for Fallout 4, dubbed ‘FishFiend,’ significantly upgrades the game’s leveling systems by introducing new perks, skills, and traits.
Designed to enrich your experience, especially if you’re revisiting the game after the buzz from Amazon’s show, this mod adds about 50 new perks, 14 new traits, and 12 new skills.
It also revamps many of the existing perks from the original game. This enhancement builds on the creator’s 2020 Hot Diggity project, aiming to expand and improve the game’s progression system to make it more engaging than before.
Mod’s Aim: Unique and Engaging Gameplay
The primary aim of the FishFiend mod is to boost the game’s replay value. It achieves this by slowing down the process where every character eventually becomes proficient in all skills, commonly referred to as becoming a ‘jack of all trades.’
This mod introduces specific, niche perks that help each character develop a more unique and specialized set of abilities.
Additionally, the mod restructures some underwhelming perks, such as turning a previously unattractive perk that only offered 20% more damage with pistols into something more enticing and useful.
Returning to Roots with New Traits System
FishFiend’s mod reintroduces a traits system reminiscent of earlier Fallout games like Fallout 1, 2, and New Vegas, where each trait comes with both benefits and drawbacks. For instance, the Berserker trait in the mod increases melee weapon damage and movement speed by 20%, but it also increases the damage you take by 25%. This addition of trade-offs encourages players to make more strategic decisions about how they build their characters.
