Mercedes Mone made a high-profile entrance into AEW earlier this year, debuting to a warm reception on “AEW Dynamite: Big Business.” While she has yet to step into the ring, she has featured in promotional segments on AEW programming.
However, Eric Bischoff has expressed concerns about her microphone skills affecting her standing in the promotion, particularly highlighting her promo on the April 24 episode of “Dynamite” during a discussion on “83 Weeks.”
“I don’t dislike Mercedes. She’s a phenomenal wrestler, she’s a phenomenal performer in the ring. She’s had an incredible run.
She’s hugely successful and I respect the hell out of her for what she’s accomplished. That doesn’t mean she’s capable of holding a mic for more than 30 seconds.”
Bischoff noted that even during her WWE tenure as Sasha Banks, she struggled with lengthy promos. However, he believes that WWE knew how to mitigate her weaknesses, whereas AEW allows her to speak for extended periods on live television. Bischoff cautioned that if this trend continues, Mone may see a decline in her star power.
“Every time she opens her mouth, her stock value decreases by about 10%. She’d be much better off never to say anything.
Just smile and do a little f**king dance and come out with funny hair. Do all that s**t. That got her over.”
Mone is scheduled to challenge Willow Nightingale for the TBS Championship at AEW Double or Nothing.
Barring any appearances on AEW television before the event, this will mark her first match in over a year, following a career-threatening injury suffered against Nightingale at NJPW Resurgence.
